First-Ever Broadway Week Sweeps a Smash
9/14/17
NYC Broadway Week for Fall 2017 is underway, allowing thousands of visitors and New Yorkers the opportunity to attend a Broadway show at a discount now through September 17. The popular program is celebrating its seventh year offering two-for-one tickets to over 20 top Broadway shows.
The big news this season is the first-ever NYC Broadway Week Sweeps, which lets theatre fans enter for the chance to win a free pair of tickets to participating shows. This pilot initiative, designed to add excitement and web traffic for Broadway Week, is a partnership between NYC & Company and The Shubert Organization, leveraging Shubert’s popular online lottery technology.
Beginning Friday, September 8, visitors to the site were able to login via their Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn accounts and enter to win a pair of tickets to one of 20 participating shows, with performances taking place the week of September 11.
Entrants chose which shows and performances they wanted, and winners received one of their choices. Winners were selected and notified on Monday afternoon, September 11.
In total, the launch of the sweepstakes received over 17,000 entries from 2,300+ individual users. Entrants mostly hailed from the NYC Metro area, but entries were received from a number of foreign countries. The average age of participants was 37 (based on Facebook logins)—older than the typical Broadway show lottery entrants—and the roster skewed nearly 70% female.
Given the success of this first sweepstakes, NYC & Company and Shubert are hoping to expand the program this winter and continue to add new ways to surprise and delight Broadway fans in the city and beyond.
