Travel Press Make It Big on Broadway
3/15/18
New shows looking to make a big splash on Broadway often hold preview press events for local theatre writers and entertainment reporters, but what about the travel writers who help encourage NYC tourism? Broadway Inbound recently organized a sneak peek rehearsal to give travel press a glimpse at Pretty Woman: The Musical, opening in July.
Both domestic and international travel press from over 20 publications attended the invited rehearsal and reception, including The New York Times, Travel Agent Magazine, Globo Newspaper, Forbes Life, and InStyle Germany.
The authentic rehearsal at New 42nd Street Studios—no costumes, finished sets, or props—featured three musical numbers with performances by the cast, including stars Samantha Barks and Tony Award®-winner Steve Kazee.
Following the rehearsal, attendees had the opportunity to interview the actors and creative team, including Grammy®-winner Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance, who wrote the show's score. They also spoke with Jerry Mitchell, the show's director and choreographer, book writer J.F. Lawton, and lead producer Paula Wagner.
This event was possibly the first time a Broadway show had held a press event specifically geared towards travel writers, and the exclusive access didn’t go unnoticed by the invited journalists.
"The press sneak peek was such a treat, I can't wait to see the full show," exclaimed Charlotte Willis from Whimn Australia. The travel team from Time Out New York also expressed their excitement and gratitude, and documented the memorable event on their Instagram.
This opportunity to attend a rehearsal and speak with the creative team will help Pretty Woman garner more coverage in publications around the world that educate travelers and the professional travel industry about what’s on in NYC.
